Sneak Of The Week

The Sneak Of The Week is the Air Jordan ‘Powder Blue’ IX Retro. The Air Jordan IX was released in 1993, the year Michael Jordan announced his unexpected retirement from the NBA a day before training camp at the age of 30. This was the first signature shoe that Michael would never play a game in due to his retirement. The Air Jordan ‘Powder Blue’ IX was an original colorway released in 1993 as has never been retro’ed since, making it a holy grail of sorts to sneaker aficionados. Finally fifteen years later sneaker lovers and Jordan fans alike will get their chance to grab a fresh pair. The Air Jordan ‘Powder Blue’ IX Retro will release Saturday, May 29th. Sneak Of The Week

The Sneak Of The Week is the Air Jordan II Retro QF “Quarter Finals”. The Air Jordan II is a timeless shoe with many legendary benchmarks. The original release featured an upper made of fine Italian leather. It was also the first Nike basketball shoe to not feature the Nike Swoosh logo, instead focusing more on the iconic Jordan “Wings”. Michael Jordan won his first NBA Slam Dunk Title in these shoes, and also advanced past the first round of the playoffs for the first time despite an injury plagued season. If you missed them in 2004, here is your next chance to scoop up a classic shoe that debuted over twenty years ago. The Air Jordan II Retro QF is releasing Saturday, May 22nd at select Jordan Brand Accounts. To hear more about the Sneak Of The Week tune in to Sports Rapp Live. Photos: SneakerNews

Sneak Of The Week

The Sneak Of The Week is the Silver Anniversary Air Jordan Retro XI. As Jordan Brand celebrates it’s twenty fifth anniversary in 2010, they continue to release their classic models in white and silver colorways paying somewhat a traditional homage to the occasion. Preceded by the I, II, III, IV, and IX, the next of these silhouettes is arguably the most popular of all Jordan Brand’s lineage, the Air Jordan XI. The shoes are strikingly similar to the original 1996 fan favorite ‘Columbia’ XI colorway that has yet to re-release since early 2001, making the Anniversary XIs a ‘must cop’ for many old and new collectors alike. However, even stripped of color accents, the most notable difference in these shoes is that they are the first retro XI to ever release without the classic Jumpman icon on the heel. The Silver Anniversary Air Jordan Retro XI will release in limited numbers at select Jordan Brand accounts Saturday, May 1st. To hear more about the Sneak Of The Week tune in to Sports Rapp Live. Sneak Of The Week

The Sneak Of The Week is the Nike SB Skunk Dunk High. In 2004 Nike SB set the sneaker world ablaze with the release of three colorways of the SB Hemp Dunk Low including the mahogany red, cascade blue, and the ever elusive bonsai green. The release coincided with April 20th a notorious holiday in cannabis culture. Now six years later Nike SB serves up a reprise of the Hemp Dunk Low  serving up their big brother. Behold the Skunk Dunk High designed by Todd Bratrud who is no stranger to Nike SB’s Dunk Highs with his previous hits; the Send Helps and BaDunka Dunks. The Skunk Dunk High features a fuzzy tonal green upper with orange and purple accents. The insole features an illustration by the artist of the shoes inspiration, that green skunk. The Nike SB Skunk Dunk High is a Quickstrike release that will release in limited numbers at select Nike SB accounts. While Quickstrike releases do not usually hold a firm release date, many shops are choosing to hold a celebratory release of the shoes on 4/20. Sneak Of The Week

The Sneak Of The Week is the MLB series by Vans Vault. Van’s has succeeded where many have failed, by producing a series of sports franchised branded sneakers. There formula for success was to use their classic silhouettes inspired by team’s uniforms and colors. Next add tastefully placed and embroidered team logos. Finally throw in a matching Majestic Authentic Jersey, all into a unique custom team logo box! Then top it all off by limiting each of the releases to only a dozen pairs per select store during the opening of the MLB season, and you have a recipe for pandemonium from sneaker heads and baseball fanatics alike! Sneak Of The Week

The Sneak Of The Week is the Air Jordan 1 Retro KO Hi. The origins of the AJKO have been somewhat cloudy even to the most knowledgeable sneaker connoisseur, however our good friend Dee Wells of Obsessive Sneaker Disorder dropped us a little history on the topic. The AJKOs were originally released along side the Air Jordan 1 by Nike during Michael Jordan’s 1985-86 season. The KO’s upper featured a slightly different silhouette from the Air Jordan 1, including mostly canvas materials which boasted a more breathable and affordable sneaker. However the fact MJ himself never played in the shoes, combined with a poor marketing strategy, caused the original AJKOs to not sell very well and even helped some pairs find a spot on the sales racks. Yet over the years a recognizable pair of these shunned AJKOs became increasingly difficult to find, causing them to become what many Jordan collectors would call their ‘Holy Grail’ of sneakers. Finally after almost a twenty five year hiatus Jordan Brand reissued the mysterious sneaker in an extremely limited run. The shoes even feature a pre-worn vintage treatment to mimic the look of their long lost predecessors. The Air Jordan 1 Retro KO Hi was released Saturday, March 27th at very few select Jordan Brand accounts. Sneak Of The Week

The Sneak Of The Week is the Larry Perkins Nike SB Dunk Low Premium. Upon the leak of some samples these shoes were also dubbed the Chirping Birds. This is because when you press the tongue it actually makes the sound of a phone ringing, which some one mistook for a bird call. However the shoes are actually based off of a notorious fictional skateboarder known as Larry Perkins. Larry was famous for prank calling various skateboarding companies to boast of his phenomenal talents. Recordings of these calls can be heard here. While denim dunks have always been a big hit with Nike fans, the addition of a patent swoosh, a furry interior lining, the classic bred colorway, and a unique sound effect immediately sent the sneaker community into a frenzy trying to catch one of these extremely limited pairs. The Larry Perkins Nike SB Dunk Low Premium dropped as a quick strike release to select Nike SB accounts and instantly sold out.
